The 2019 Official Safety Car partnership sees McLaren return for a fourth season, showcasing the Sports Series models with the 570S Coupé and 570GT. Over the season, the cars take the leading role in safely managing one of the most competitive grids of GT3 and GT4 machinery ever assembled in the UK.
2018 saw McLaren Automotive continue its partnership with the British GT Championship for a third year, supplying the Official Safety Car. The full Sports Series range was showcased throughout the seven race weekends, with the 570S Coupé and 570GT joined this year by the newly launched 570S Spider – each taking
the leading role in safely managing one of the most competitive grids of GT3 and GT4 machinery ever assembled in the UK. Fittingly, safety is at the very core of
each model in the McLaren Sports Series, which feature a lightweight, inherently strong carbon fibre chassis in keeping with every McLaren built for road or track since the MP4-1 that contested the 1981 Formula 1 season.
The McLaren safety car headed up a field of up to seven McLarens running with customer teams Balfe Motorsport, Equipe Verschuur, Tolman Motorsport and track-club throughout another exciting British GT Championship. With the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine
delivering 570PS (562bhp) and 600Nm (4443lb ft) of torque via the rear wheels, and a top speed in excess of 200mph, each of the Sports Series models taking on this important duty during the race weekend activities had little trouble keeping pace with the pursuing pack.
