The 2018 Official Safety Car partnership sees McLaren return for a third season, showcasing the Sports Series models with the 570S Coupé and 570GT. Over the season, the cars take the leading role in safely managing one of the most competitive grids of GT3 and GT4 machinery ever assembled in the UK.

Fittingly, safety is at the very core of both the 570S Coupé and 570GT models, which feature a lightweight, inherently strong carbon fibre chassis in keeping with every McLaren built for road or track since the MP4-1 Formula 1 car that contested the 1981 season.

The rear wheel-drive 570S Coupé and 570GT models had little trouble keeping pace with its race-bred pursuers thanks to the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine, generating 562bhp (570PS) and 600Nm (443lb ft) of torque, which accelerates both models on to a top speed in excess of 200mph.

The Sports Series is the third model tier to be launched by McLaren, joining the Super Series and Ultimate Series, and brings McLaren technology to the sportscar market for the first time. With motorsport-derived technologies and performance figures to rival many supercars in the segment above, each derivative – the 570S Coupé, the refined 570GT or the most recently launched 570S Spider, is as at home on track as it is on the road.

The McLaren 570S and 570GT Safety Cars headed up a field of to seven different McLarens on show over the course of 2018’s nine races; joining the Balfe Motorsport 650S GT3 and the 570S GT4 entries from Tolman Motorsport, track-club, Equipe Verschuur and Balfe Motorsport.
