A new team-specific award will be up for grabs at each British GT Championship round in 2016 in order to highlight the behind-the-scenes work that might otherwise go unnoticed each weekend.
The Professional Motorsport World Expo Team of the Weekend Award will be offered to the outfit that has gone above and beyond or produced a stand-out act during each 2016 British GT event. This, amongst other considerations, might include overcoming a particularly difficult technical issue, executing an innovative race strategy to perfection or achieving an unexpected result in the face of adversity.
The award is open to all full-season teams competing in both GT3 and GT4.
A trophy will be awarded to each winner at every round before one overall ‘champion’ is crowned at the end-of-season prize giving ceremony where their sporting attitude, dedication and spirit will be recognised.
British GT Championship Manager Benjamin Franassovici said: “We already have a number of standalone awards covering our Am and Pro drivers, but it seems appropriate that our teams should also be recognised. There are an awful lot of hard working personnel in our paddock who might otherwise go unnoticed, and we think it’s appropriate that their dedication is more widely recognised. With the Professional Motorsport World Expo Team of the Weekend Award we intend to do just that.”
The award will be presented for the first time at the end of today’s season opening round at Brands Hatch.
