• Championship draws inspiration from classic motorsport poster artwork
The British GT Championship and BRDC Formula 4 package has chosen a striking graphic design concept for each of this season’s seven official event posters. The first of these - promoting the opening round at Brands Hatch on April 16/17 - was revealed today (see image below).
The posters are the result of close collaboration between series bosses and motorsport graphic design artist Jake Yorath whose simple colour combinations and clean lines have resulted in a bold style and sense of speed unique to British GT’s promotion.
It was these qualities that attracted a series eager to set itself apart from the common photo-based designs used by the vast majority of other championships. In doing so, the concept provides a modern twist on those classic painted or illustrated motorsport event posters so revered by enthusiasts and collectors.
A very limited number of official event posters will be free to fans attending each of this year’s British GT rounds.
Benjamin Franassovici, British GT Championship Manager: “We were really keen this year to produce a series of event posters truly unique to the British GT and BRDC F4 package, and I honestly believe that - together with Jake - we’ve achieved just that.
“Motor racing fans in general have a wonderful appreciation of the sport’s history, but I’m not sure whether the majority of today’s photo-based event posters will stand the test of time like so many of their illustrated predecessors. So although our sole aim hasn’t been to create an instant classic we were keen to capture an element of what makes those old designs special. Hopefully, during the course of 2016, our graphic interpretation will become instantly recognisable as British GT.”
Posters promoting the championship’s other six events will be revealed during the build-up to each race weekend.
The unveiling of British GT’s new event poster concept is just one element of the championship’s fresh new ‘look’ for 2016, as announced last Friday.
