Adam Wilcox made Avon Tyres British GT Championship history at Knockhill this morning, the Predator CCTV Ferrari driver achieving the first sub 50-second qualifying lap at the Scottish track. Wilcox’s achievement earned him the pole for this afternoon’s fourth round of the championship.
“We’re very pleased,” said Wilcox. “The car was perfect and it was a good lap. We’re hoping for a good result come the race.” Wilcox’s team-mate, Phil Burton, will start round three from third on the grid.
Pole for round three went to reigning champion team Preci-Spark, David Jones beating Chad Ferrari driver Chris Hyman to top spot by three-tenths.
There were problems in qualifying for the MTECH Ferrari team; Duncan Cameron beached the 430 Scuderia in a gravel trap after setting sixth-best time in session one, and the resulting repairs caused Matt Griffin to miss much of the second session. He qualified seventh.
In the G4 class, Speedworks Ginetta driver Jamie Stanley pipped Piranha Lotus man Chris Bialan to pole honours in first qualifying, with Nathan Freke (Century Ginetta) the quick man in second qualifying.
British GT is sponsored by UK tyre manufacturer Avon Tyres and is further supported by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and The Independent.
