Cameron and Griffin make shock Barwell switch

A pairing synonymous with Ferrari, Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin, are switching to another Italian manufacturer – Lamborghini – for the upcoming British GT season.

The Pro-Am duo are the first of three entries to be confirmed by Barwell Motorsport, which is entering its final season with the Huracan GT3 before switching to the new Lamborghini Temerario in 2027.

Cameron and Griffin have campaigned every GT3 model built by Ferrari, which includes the 430, 458, 488 and 296, since making their first British GT start together in 2009. However, this is the first time in 17 years that they will share a car either domestically or further afield without a Prancing Horse on the front.

Griffin’s British GT experience does extend to something other than a Ferrari: he was a multiple class winner with Porsche and Holden before joining the GT3 ranks, and also came close to joining Barwell’s Aston Martin DBRS9 programme in 2006. However, none of that is especially relevant to the car he will drive this year…

“We felt the time was right to make a change for this season in British GT, and when you go looking for a top team you don’t have to search much further than Barwell Motorsport,” said the 14-time race winner. “You only have to look at their record in British GT to know they’re one of, if not the most successful team in the championship’s history, so it should be the perfect environment for Duncan and I.

“While we’ll still be competing in Europe with Ferrari, I’m hugely excited to get to grips with the Lamborghini. Both cars are mid-engined, so the dynamics shouldn’t be too different, and I’m looking forward to racing with a naturally aspirated engine again, which I’ve always felt was a strength for me. You don’t have to worry about keeping turbos spooling or dropping out of torque bands… it’s a pure driving experience with that wonderful V10.

“We’ve got several tests booked pre-season to help us adapt, and being part of a three-car team with open data sharing should also be a great help. I can’t wait to get going, and I’d also like to say thanks to AF Corse for allowing me to be a part of this programme in British GT.”

Cameron is also looking forward to the challenge, as well as the opportunity to join his son in the wider paddock.

“I was very keen to get back to British GT for this year as my son, Henry, will be competing in Ginetta Junior on the same package,” he revealed. “Eventually we’d love to race together in GTs, so it makes sense for us both to be competing on the same weekends.

“When we looked at options for this year it made sense to switch, and when the chance to join Barwell Motorsport came up, it was a no-brainer. I’ve yet to experience the Lamborghini Huracan but across the years it’s been a very competitive package at pretty much every track. I know with the support of Matt and the Barwell team I’ll learn quickly and I’m looking forward to a really competitive year ahead.”

This year marks the current Huracan’s final season of top-flight GT3 competition, with the switch from the naturally aspirated V10 machine to the new twin-turbo V8 Temerario GT3 due to be made for the start of the 2027 season. Going all-in with a three-car British GT entry – the biggest in Barwell’s history – represents a fitting farewell for the model, which the team has operated in British GT with great success since its arrival in 2016.

“This is going to be a big season for us, on many levels, and confirming a partnership as strong and experienced as Duncan and Matt is a great way to start,” said team principal Mark Lemmer. “As driver pairings go it’s hard to find a more enduring partnership than theirs. They have competed at the very highest levels together for many years and know each other’s skills inside out. They work incredibly well together, so I have no doubt they’ll adapt very quickly to the Lamborghini and we’re looking forward to seeing what they can achieve this year.

“With this being the final year running the Huracan in top-flight competition – a car we’ve had unprecedented success with – the time is right to expand the effort to three cars. Alongside this enhanced British GT commitment we’ve also launched our GT3 Heritage division to race in classic GT3 series across Europe, so it’s going to be a big season at home and abroad. We can’t wait to get started.”

The team’s additional line ups will be confirmed in due course. All three are expected to attend British GT’s media day at Silverstone on March 31 before contesting the season opener at the same venue in late April.
