Martin and Waberski complete Barwell’s three-car British GT entry

Jarrod Waberski joins perennial front runner Alex Martin aboard Barwell’s third and final British GT entry this year.

The Silver-Am duo will race the venerable Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in what will be the car’s final season of front-line competition.

Martin finished second overall in 2024 and fourth last year alongside former champion Sandy Mitchell. But with the Squadra Corse factory ace busy in IMSA, a change of direction has led Barwell to rising star Waberski.

The 20-year-old was crowned GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup Silver class champion in his first full GT3 campaign last season – a title that followed runner-up finishes in both his native South African Formula Ford 1600 series and the GB4 Championship.

Waberski’s successful 2025 campaign included a class podium at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa. Via the SRO GT Academy he is, as a Silver driver aged under 30 competing in British GT, now eligible to win a prize drive at the same race next season.

“I’m delighted to be joining Barwell and Alex for this year, and making my British GT debut,” he said. “Last year was my first in GT racing and it was a steep learning curve, but it was an amazing season with some incredible success. The BMW took a lot of adapting to after racing single-seaters, and I had to alter my driving technique quite a lot to suit it. After one test in the Lamborghini I felt right at home. Being mid-engined it feels that bit more natural to drive with the engine behind you and the dynamics and weight transfer were quite familiar.

“Obviously, following Sandy I’ve got some big boots to fill, but I’m absolutely confident I can get into the mix. Success in British GT is so often determined by the performance of the amateur driver, and Alex has proven himself as one of the top drivers in the championship. With him and Barwell behind me the aim has to be to fight for both the Silver-Am title, and the overall GT3 crown.”

Martin has won four times over the last two years and sees 2026 as an opportunity first and foremost to claim the Silver-Am title.

“I’m really excited about this year, and to be working with Jarrod. Everybody who’s been around him says he’s a great guy and super quick. I believe you can always keep improving, and I hope to learn some new things from him this season, same as I did with Sandy, who taught me so much. Vice versa, this will be my third season in the Lamborghini and I love delving into the technical and setup side of the racing, so perhaps I can teach Jarrod some things too.

“British GT for me feels like major unfinished business. We came so close to the title in 2024 and had the package to win it last season but some bad luck that went against us. I have no doubt the Huracan GT3 is still a winning package, especially in mixed conditions or the wet where so few cars come close. While race pace has usually always been strong with me, I’m keen to improve on my qualifying performances this season. I’m also really looking forward to going up against Rob [Collard] in the sister car again. He’s a good friend and a great driver, so we always have a good level of competition between us.

“Although we’re in Silver-Am, the outright title is still always the aim. We’ve seen Silver-Am crews in the overall fight before, and if we can put together a consistent campaign and stay clear of trouble, hopefully we can be right in the fight come the end of the year.”

Martin and Waberski’s entry completes Barwell’s three-car British GT attack. Former two-time champion Rob Collard is again paired with last year’s runner-up Hugo Cook, while Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin made the move from Ferrari to Lamborghini over the winter.

Only Barwell’s top two finishers in each race will score points towards the teams’ championship.

Silverstone hosts British GT’s media day on March 31 before the 2026 season kicks off at the same circuit on April 25-26.
