Barnicoat joins Optimum for first full-season British GT campaign

One of the world’s top GT drivers, Ben Barnicoat, will partner Morgan Tillbrook at Optimum this season.

The 29-year-old has represented Lexus in America since 2022 and subsequently on the world stage but also knows the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo inside out from his time as one of Woking’s works drivers. He’s also no stranger to Optimum having raced for them at the Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this month and in previous years under the Inception Racing banner.

It was with the latter that he made his last British GT appearance in 2023 at Silverstone after a brief GT4 spell five years earlier.

2026 therefore represents Barnicoat’s first full season in his domestic championship – commitments he’ll dovetail alongside another IMSA campaign with Vasser Sullivan Racing.

“I’m really excited to be competing in British GT this year alongside Morgan with Optimum Motorsport,” he said. “Morgan’s a proven force in this series and I’ve already had success with this team, so I’m confident we can have further success together in 2026.”

Tillbrook, meanwhile, begins his second season with Optimum and sixth at the wheel of a 720S. He and Marvin Kirchhöfer entered last year’s British GT finale as one of four title contenders but ultimately slipped to seventh due to the close nature of the championship. Third in 2022 remains his best finish to date.

Silverstone hosts British GT’s media day on March 31 before the 2026 season kicks off at the same circuit on April 25-26.
