Ben Green put 2 Seas Motorsport and Mercedes-AMG out front ahead of Qualifying at Snetterton with a strong mid-session effort that kept the car clear over the second half of second practice.
George Gamble looked set to repeat his class-topping performance from FP1 only for Colin Turkington to string together a great final lap and nick GT4 honours in WSR’s BMW.
2 Seas’ sister AMG shared by Aaron Walker and Ian Loggie was the first to set a time before Hugo Cook bettered it in the #63 Barwell Lamborghini, only for Ben Barnicoat to repeat his trick of putting the #77 McLaren out front. This time though his effort wouldn’t be enough as Green produced two laps good enough for top spot, his second moving the #18 almost a second clear.
The rhythm of the session was interrupted by a red flag when Rob Collard ground to a halt out on track with a technical issue, leaving just 11 minutes remaining once the #63 Huracan had been retrieved.
Green handed across to Kevin Tse for the closing stages, but the car remained comfortable despite a flurry of late improvements. Jarrod Waberski moved himself and Alex Martin up to second in the closing moments aboard Barwell's #78 car, but still fell 0.2s shy of Green’s best. Martin Plowman and Mark Smith improved to make Paddock’s 720S the top McLaren in third overall ahead of Optimum’s Mike Price and Callum Macleod. Walker and Loggie were fifth ahead of Barnicoat and Morgan Tillbrook.
Turkington was another driver on the move after the red flag, making the most of his late run to snatch the top GT4 time.
Luke Shaw’s Toro Verde Ginetta led the early stages before Gamble again went fastest in the yellow Optimum McLaren. Gamble’s best lap stood for much of the session before Turkington took over from Ernie Graham and managed to shave 0.1s off the benchmark to secure the result. Shaw and Jack Mitchell held third ahead of Revie Lake and Blake Angliss’ Paddock McLaren and Ian Duggan and Tom Bradshaw’s Toro Verde Porsche.
Qualifying is scheduled for 15:30.
