2025 ENTRY: Price and Macleod make Optimum McLaren switch

2025 ENTRY: Price and Macleod make Optimum McLaren switch

Mike Price and Callum Macleod have moved to Optimum Motorsport for the 2025 British GT Championship campaign.

The switch also represents a change of GT3 machinery for the Pro-Am duo who are swapping from Mercedes-AMG to McLaren.

Their entry will be one of two 720S GT3 Evos run by the Yorkshire outfit, which finished fifth in the 2024 drivers’ standings with Mark Radcliffe and Tom Gamble.

Price and Macleod were five places further back but enjoyed a competitive and consistent second season together with Greystone GT.

Price now enters his third British GT3 campaign after first linking up with Macleod in 2023.

“Whilst it never seems a good idea to be wishing time away, the weeks can’t pass fast enough to get to the start of our pre-season testing dates and on track in the McLaren 720S GT3 run by Optimum and begin the work with Callum of trying to get up to speed ready for Round 1,” he said.

“It is such a fantastic opportunity to try and progress further in British GT after the progress made in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Greystone over the past two years. We are aiming to better the 10th place finish in the championship last year and push for our first elusive podium in the series; no mean feat amongst the most competitive GT3 competition in the UK and one of the most Europe-wide.

“Optimum is a very top team when it comes to running McLaren GT race cars all over the world and the 720S GT3 is a proven, competitive package.”

Macleod, meanwhile, has spent the majority of his British GT career at the wheel of Mercedes-AMG machinery, first with RAM Racing and then Greystone GT. This will be his first campaign racing something other than a Three Pointed Star since his Team Parker Bentley days in 2017.

“2025 marks 10 years since I made my British GT debut at Silverstone in an Audi R8, and after nine years of racing front-engined cars with the Bentley and Mercedes-AMG I’m really looking forward to the challenge of stepping into the mid-engined McLaren 720S GT3,” said the three-time race winner.

“Optimum is a team I know very well from my mentoring role with Jack Brown in the GT4. I’ve watched them operate at the very highest level consistently and with a real hunger to win, so when Mike hinted that he was interested in exploring options outside of his Mercedes-AMG there was only one place I wanted to be and fortunately the stars have aligned.

“Mike had some really stand-out performances last season and I’m confident that we have the equipment to compete at the sharp end on a regular basis. It’s going to be a steep learning curve with the new surroundings but seeing how much Mike has developed over the last couple of seasons gives me a real sense of optimism heading into this one. The continued support of Forelle Estates makes this all possible and we’ll do everything we can to deliver the results our whole team deserve.”

British GT’s media day takes place at Silverstone on March 21. Fans can attend for free but must reserve their ticket in advance at silverstone.co.uk/events/british-gt-championship.

The seven-event, nine-race season itself begins three weeks later at Donington Park (April 5/6).
