+ Result: Free Practice 2
Marcus Clutton waited until the final moments of the second practice session at Spa to put in his best effort and give the Orange Racing by JMH team the momentum heading into Qualifying later.
It looked like the fastest time would be heading the way of Paddock Motorsport’s McLaren after Martin Plowman went fastest late on after a mid-session stoppage, but Clutton improved just as the flag fell to steal the result by 0.2s.
Jack Mitchell and Luke Shaw went fastest in GT4 early doors and weren’t troubled after that, finishing comfortably clear of the class opposition.
When the session went green under the baking Belgian sun, Ben Green’s 2 Seas Mercedes-AMG was the first to put in a benchmark before Rob Collard’s Barwell Lamborghini and Ben Barnicoat’s Optimum McLaren shuffled him back. Jack Brown was the next to take a turn out front in the #90 Optimum 720S Evo shortly before the session was halted to clear gravel from the track.
When running resumed, Plowman strapped in and toppled Brown’s best time, which looked like being the ultimate of the session until Clutton went for one final effort and edged ahead under the chequered flag, sealing the deal for himself and Simon Orange.
Plowman and Smith were second ahead of Collard and Hugo Cook. Mike Price and Callum Macleod were fourth fastest on their return to action in the #3 Optimum McLaren with the sister car of Morgan Tillbrook and Barnicoat fifth. Alex Martin and Jarrod Waberski led Silver-Am in sixth in their Barwell Lamborghini.
Mitchell wasted little time in putting his mark on the GT4 field, setting the session’s best lap on just his third tour aboard the #42 Pro-Am Toro Verde GT Ginetta. After leading the way in FP1, Revie Lake and Blake Angliss kept up their strong form with second overall and fastest in Silver, albeit with a handful of French GT cars separating them from the lead Ginetta. Will Orton and Jess Hawkins were third in the MK Racing Aston Martin while John Hartshorne and Dexter Patterson claimed fourth in their GBR Stratton Vantage.
Qualifying is set for 18:35.
