> Petrobelli and Grimes joined by AMR factory drivers Eastwood and Sorensen
TF Sport are returning to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship for the series’ blue riband Silverstone 500 on June 26/27 with a pair of Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3s.
Reigning two-time FIA WEC champion Marco Sorensen, whose CV also includes one British GT3 victory with TF Sport, joins series debutant Bonamy Grimes, while Giacomo Petrobelli shares the second Pro-Am entry with another AMR factory driver: Charlie Eastwood.
“It’s good to be back on home soil during a season full of international campaigns,” said team boss Tom Ferrier, whose outfit won the GT4 Teams’ and Drivers’ titles last season. “We have proved ourselves in this championship over the years and with two solid driver pairings, it will be interesting to see where we fare amongst this season’s competition. I’m pleased to have both Bon and Giacomo back with the team and we will be pushing for strong results from them both.”
Grimes raced an original V12-powered Vantage prepared by TF Sport in the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series but is better known for his association with Red River Sport and Ferrari. Indeed, he is currently contesting the Britcar Endurance Championship aboard a 458 Challenge car after spending a season in the FIA WEC racing the GTE-spec 488.
“I’m really looking forward to teaming up again with Tom and TF Sport, a team whom I hold in high regard from when I raced with them in the 2018 Asian Le Mans Series, and then against them in the 2019/20 World Endurance Championship,” he said. “I’m looking forward to competing for the very first time in the British GT Championship and challenging myself against some of the very best bronze drivers in the country.”
The sister entry features two drivers who made one-off British GT appearances at Silverstone last November, albeit for different Aston Martin teams.
Petrobelli was also with TF Sport on that occasion when he partnered then-reigning GT4 champion Tom Canning. Now he teams up with Eastwood who has represented TF Sport in FIA WEC, GT World Challenge Europe, ELMS, Asian Le Mans Series, the Daytona 24 Hours, International GT Open and the Le Mans 24 Hours where he claimed class victory with the squad last season.
“It is great to be back with Tom and TF Sport for another crack at the Silverstone 500,” said Petrobelli. “Last year’s race was my first one after a long period of inactivity, so being back at the same track, and at the wheel of the same car, with the same great team but with a little more experience of it all, makes me very excited. I am also very excited about teaming up with Charlie, who has proven to be incredibly fast in the Vantage GT3, with the clear aim to compete with the best Pro-Am pairings in British GT.”
Expect further race-by-race entries to be announced in the coming weeks ahead of British GT’s second outing of the 2021 campaign.
